Night Visit Photos

May 28 2008
Well our daughter will be 5 days old today at 1:33 pm. It’s an odd and quite surreal feeling. But she is doing well and progressing on schedule….ahead of it if you ask me ;) But we are still in the battle for her location of care due to our insurance company…..
Ashlynn is getting to go in and meet her little sister this morning. We got it all cleared with the NICU Doctor last night. So that made Ash very VERY happy. We got to get her in this morning before she went to daycare. She was very well behaved and very excited to see her little sister. She told her she was going to teach her how to bake cakes!! It was pretty great. She was just overjoyed. Tami and I are glad that we got to get her in here this morning because we are not sure she will be allowed at the new location. We got a few photos.

On the way to visit Aleia this morning, we got the call that she was going to have to be transferred or it was going to cost us quite a bit out of pocket. (roughly $1000 plus $1500 per day for her stay) (think 30+ days of that) The Med even offered to cut their required payments and just accept whatever our insurance was willing to pay. And our insurance said no way. I just really do not understand the lack of logic and practicality of it all. It’s just crazy! Well and really annoying and a few other choice words.
So…..we had to move our baby. This has made us very sad. We really liked the place we were located. The staff was great and very nice. They tried everything they could to make it able for us to stay there. But our insurance company would just not budge. So we had to be moved. Many thanks again to all of those trying to help us stay put. So about 2pm today they loaded her up and drove her across town. And we checked her into St Jo’s. It was very hard for Tami and I. It’s just a strange place with strange faces. I am sure we will be come accustomed to it by the time we leave in several weeks, but right now it doesn’t feel like home. I think The Med will always feel like home.
The “transfer” went well. Tami was able to ride along in the ambulance with the doctor and a nurse. This is not always standard procedure so that was some special treatment. Also she was told on the ride over that The Med was basically donating the cost of the transfer. Normally the hospital to which a patient is being moved to provides the transportation, staff, etc. But the folks at St. Jo’s could not do that in a timely fashion. (or even at all, I am not sure) So the Med stepped up and were very nice. Again so many thanks.
So we now are in residence at St Joseph’s in Bryan. We stuck around for a bit today after the transfer and watched the goings on. We are headed back this evening to see her again. Our hours of visitation are limited to 1 hour at the hours of feeding. So we can see her for one hour at the 12, 3, 6, 9 times. So that will take some adjustments.
We went up to the new NICU tonight for some time around 9pm. Again just not the same. Tami has not taken well to most of this and it’s difficult for me to see her upset. We both know some of it is post pregnancy hormones, which are more haywire due to the early delivery. But also its just a hard transition for us both. I am sure Aleia could care less. She is still eating, sleeping and tanning just the same. So, we got to sit with Aleia tonight for a bit and she actually tired to nurse a bit on Tami which is a great step forward. So that was a nice thing to have happen on such a lousy day. So even small good things still happened today.
The most upsetting thing about all of this to me is the fact that it has taken my attention away from my child and family to deal with something that should not have been an issue to begin with. Sometimes the lack of compassion and consideration in the world is astounding. I just get more upset at the principle of the whole thing. Arghhhh…I must digress and just try to let it all go. It’s just hard at times to let it go. Especially for me. ( if you know me well enough, you can agree)
Enough for one day….It has been a long and trying one. Time for a little sleep.
